Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a foot tap!*

We hope you had a lovely St. George's Day. We can't wait to see your work. It was also William Shakespeare's birthday yesterday. This famous extract from Richard II was played on the radio, which we thought we would share with you. Try reading it aloud. You may even want to learn it by heart. What do you think about it? Could this inspire some art, written work or sculpture?

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,

Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-). 

As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)

 Word of the Day:  Native  

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!). 

09:00 - 09:30: Reading. 

Read your book for 15 mins or more.

Now, complete the 60-Second Reading Comprehension 'Metamorphosis' - think about the types of question and what each skill, each 'dog' is focusing on. 

09:30 - 10:30: Maths. 

Today we are continuing with our work on decimals. Specifically looking at adding decimals that have the same number of decimal places.

• Feeling confident and need a challenge? Have a go at one of the sheets in Maths - Mastery Challenge. (The little submarine symbol in the corner shows the level of challenge - the deeper the submarine, the more challenging it is!). 

Be sure to self-mark your answers! 

10:30 - 10:45: Break. 

Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.

How is your running jump going? Are you jumping further? 

10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. 

Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!   

Spelling Revision: Words ending in -ent. 

Work through SPaG - Spelling Revision (this is based on what we do in our spelling booklets in school!). 

11:15 - 12:15: English. 

Finish your non-fiction book on indigenous animal from Great Britain. You can create a page for each of the animals. So complete 2-3 today and 1-2 tomorrow. In total you will have 3-5 pages. 

• Remember to add: a title, subheadings, paragraphs, pictures and captions. Check it through. Could you improve it? Could you add a front cover or blurb? 

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch. 

Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air! 

1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading. 

Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself. 

1:30 - 3:00: Science: Focused Enquiry

Our focus in Science this term is Life-Cycles. Today you are going to describe the differences in the life cycles of a mammal.

• Focus on the mammal's life cycle. Use the video or your own knowledge of mammals (not humans though, as you have done this), then draw the life-cycle and label it in your book. 

Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).

Mrs. Hudson: I thought of love. There have been amazing acts of love and kindness shown recently. 

Miss. Martin: Exactly the same here! The things (like abstract nouns!) you may see examples of them, but they're not actually tangible! I think things like kindness, happiness etc. cannot be measured.
