Hello Year 5! *virtual hand wave - in a posh manner, like the Queen!*

So it's the last day of this virtual term. We are sure you are ready for a well deserved break from the wonderful work you have been creating! How have you enjoyed to being a good citizen completing a kind activity everyday? Hopefully you have made people smile. smiley Next term, our enquiry question is.... *drum roll please* ... du-du-du-du-DUUUH...

What if you were a pharaoh for the day?

So... we're having a real focus on Ancient Egypt, which we are all very excited about! So, we look forward to catching up with you then.

Remember to log on to the Remote Audio Book section and log in with your password as we are at the end of the story now!

  • Now we will be finishing the story today, it would be great if you could send in any questions that you would like us to pass on to Julia Green herself! We mentioned in the very first video that she has offered us the opportunity to do this! Please do email these on to us at some point today, so that we can pass them on to the author! How exciting!!!

 Word of the Day:  Discrimination

Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).

09:00 - 09:30: Reading.

Read your book for 15 mins or to the end of the next chapter.

Listen to Maya Angelou read her poem The Caged Bird.

  • Create your own response to the poem. Inspired by the Caged Bird, you could write your own poem about freedom or being trapped.
  • It could be an acrostic poem or a haiku (A haiku poem is 3 lines long. First, brainstorm the words you want to use. The first line has 2 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the third line has 5 syllables again.

09:30 - 10:30: Maths.

Today, we're continuing with Position and Direction. Applying our learning with Translation and merging it with our learning on coordinates.

Work through Friday 22nd May - Maths Task Sheet

10:30 - 10:45: Break.

Create your own obstacle course: Could you have sections with all the skills we have been practising, such as: running, jumping, skipping, throwing? Time yourself! Can you get faster?

Compare your time against a friend's or family member.

10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.

Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!

Have a go at the Revision Spelling Sheet: The word ending -ant, -ance and -ancy

11:15 - 12:15: English.

To round up our work on the Wilderness War work, today you are going to write up your plan of the Wilderness War.

So you will need:

  1. A catchy headline - use alliteration for effect!
  2. A byline (remember this?!)... Who is it by? Mrs Hudson, Chief Wildlife Editor or Miss Martin, Local Correspondent
  3. You need an introduction - the 5W's! Who, what, where, when AND why!
  4. What has happened? Include facts, opinions and quotes from those in the gang! Remember to use inverted commas " and " correctly for your quotes!
  5. Finally, a conclusion - summarise and ask a question or wonder what will happen next!
  • Remember: To use key words such as: although, even though, if, however, which, who, that, in addition, moreover, furthermore.
  • Check your punctuation, especially inverted commas, capital letters, commas and full-stops for quotes.

Use the Writing Mat to help you add that grammar correctly! You need to include at least 3 techniques off that mat!

12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.

Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!

1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.

Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Listen to the final chapters from 32-35, as Mrs. Hudson and Miss. Martin reads it.

It's the end of the story now... can't believe it?! We've really enjoyed reading it with you this term!

1:30 - 3:00: Geography-Focused Enquiry:

Work through the task Geography - Lesson 6

Think about all you have researched in our Geography lessons... based on what we now know, what do you want the future of our world to look like?

Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).

It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)

Here we go:

What are you most proud of? Why? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?

Yesterday's question:  What do you wish for most at the moment?

Mrs. Hudson: It probably won't surprise you that I would like to meet up with my friends and family and give them all squashy hugs. Watch out when it's over children!

Miss. Martin: I really miss being able to jump in the car and see friends... have a coffee somewhere alfresco! I also really miss places like Natural Trust and the gym and being able to go to other places to explore.... I'll never take those for granted again!

Have a wonderful half-term Year 5! You've done such a great job to have completed a whole half term, working through your virtual learning! Enjoy the break! laughlaughlaugh

We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!

Log in next term for some more exciting learning!
