Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a deep and majestic bow (like they sometimes do in Cambodia, India, Nepal etc.)*
We hope you had a lovely Thursday. Once again, it has been wonderful to speak to you throughout the week to find out about your work and some of the innovative learning you have done: zoom brownie meetings, music lessons on line, building indoor dens with siblings, massive Lego towns and improving your bike skills. We did a family challenge where we drew each other. It was very funny and not that complimentary. If it is rainy over the weekend give it a go!
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: metamorphosis
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Now, complete the 60-Second Reading Comprehension 'Penguin Life-Cycle' - think about the type of question and what each 'dog' focuses on.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Continue to work through the Maths Task Sheet from yesterday. The sheet tells you what to focus on today, depending on what you had done yesterday.
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
Practice your throwing skills. Roll up a scrap piece of paper. Start on a line. How far can you throw it? Keep a chart everyday.
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Have a go at the Revision Spelling Sheet: Words ending in -ence.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Noah is the main character and 'leader' of the Wilderness Gang.
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Follow Chapter 5 as Miss Martin reads it.
1:30 - 3:00: Science-Focused Enquiry:
Describe the differences in the life-cycles of an insect.
Using the information about the Leafcutter Ant and the websites below, create your own labelled life-cycle of an insect.

Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
Could a cube be a ball? How and why? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question:
Would you rather be a bird or a plane?
Mrs. Hudson: I do love watching birds, but I think it would be hard work to perch on a tall conifer in the wind, searching for food, protecting your young and dodging my cat, Humphrey!. Think of the pleasure you'd give as a plane taking all those happy people on holiday.
Miss. Martin: Although the science and engineering behind planes is incredible, I think I would rather be a bird... something like a bald eagle! Imagine having the choice to go wherever you wanted in the world and feeling the wind in your feathers... You could also land where you wanted, whereas planes (even though they have lovely views), you'd only get to visit airports!
Have a great weekend, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Monday for some more exciting learning!
