Before 0900- Wake Up and Get Dressed
Get ready for the day with independence; have a wash, dress yourself, eat breakfast and brush your teeth.
0900-0930 - Reading
Choose a book of your choice to read to yourself or share it with someone in your family, discuss it and enjoy it.
You could log on to Tapestry to listen to one of the teachers read a story! Which Mystery Teacher will be reading your story today? What did you like about the story? Why?
You could also watch a CBeebies bedtime story if you would like to, or search Youtube for stories.
Good children’s authors to search for include: Julia Donaldson, Oliver Jeffers, Giles Andreae, Sophy Henn, Morag Hood, Jill Murphy, Emily Gravett, Nick Sharratt.
0930-1000- Maths Challenge
Warm up by counting to 20, forwards and backwards. You can watch Ms Woolford's video on Tapestry if you want to.
Today we are going to practise our counting and number recognition up to 20.
Start by watching this numberblocks episode (Series 4: Flights of Fancy).
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0006rrv/numberblocks-series-4-13-flights-of-fancy
Now, get your numicon number cards that were given to you with your writing books (another copy can be found in the Additional Resources section at the bottom of the page, or you might like to make your own).
Cut your number cards so they are all separate then turn them all face down. One at a time, turn them over and build yourself a number line. You will need to think carefully about where to place each one as you turn it over. Will the bigger numbers go near the beginning or end of your number line? When you turn over a card, think about which number is one more and which number is one less.
As children are turning over a number, look at it together and discuss what they see - is it big, small, does it have any tens, how many ones? etc. Making the number with objects or on your ten frame might help. If ordering the numbers to 20 is a bit tricky, we would suggest doing it every day as part of your Maths warm up.
Now that you have had a little warm up, keep your cards in your number line and close your eyes. Ask a grown up to turn over one number card so that you can’t see it. Open your eyes back up and have a look at your number line. Which number is missing? How do you know? - Encourage the language of one more, one less, bigger, smaller, tens and ones.
Note: To support, before playing, you could represent each number with objects underneath the cards. Then, when the number disappears you can use your counting skills to investigate which number is missing if you aren’t too sure.
You can play this game a few times and then maybe you can make your own number cards to play with. You can draw whichever pictures you like on there to show the correct amount. After making your own number cards, you can play with the school ones alongside them to play snap with a grown up or sibling. Who will match the most pairs of numbers?
1000-1030- Home Learning Challenge (to continue after Break Time until 1130)
If you fancy a change, I have uploaded some PE Activity Cards to the 'Challenges' section of the Yr R Page. Don't forget you could also use this time to learn some of our VE Day songs ready for the sing-a-long on the 7th May. :-)
You can choose one of the challenges on either of your Reception Home Learning Challenges grid to complete and, if possible, share with us on Tapestry.
1030-1100 Break Time
Have one healthy snack: a banana, apple, orange etc. with a glass of milk or water. Take some time to relax, maybe you could listen to another story online.
1100 - 1130- Home Learning Challenge
Continue your Home Learning Challenge that you started – don’t forget to try and upload it to Tapestry so that we can see it!
1130 - 1200 – Writing Challenge
Warm up by doing some handwriting practice - letter 'o'. You could watch Mrs Cunningham's video to help you.
Today we are going to carry on writing our stories.
Start by reading what you wrote yesterday then think about what comes next.
We are going to use the problem from our plan and introduce this into our stories. We will then write the solution.
Just like yesterday, these only need to be brief, a sentence for each part is the aim!
Once you have finished writing your story, you might like to add some illustrations to your story for each sentence that you wrote. If you add illustrations, make sure that you take your time over them. You might even want to use your Challenge Time or PDR to do them to get them looking beautiful!
Put your front cover, story and illustrations altogether and build your book. Once you have finished, we would love you to read them to us and share them on Tapestry. You can be our Mystery Reader!
Note: When writing your story, the sentences can be as short or long as appropriate for your child.
Set your expectations high (you might just be surprised!) with a quality model like in the picture above, then support your child as appropriate (you can form the sentence together and draw them scaffold lines to write on indpendently).
Although our aim would be one sentence for each part of the plan, we know that every child is different. Simplified versions of the picture above, for example, could be written as...
1 - "Poppy went up the beanstalk. She found a sad giant. She made him happy."
or simplified further, 2 - "Poppy saw a giant. She made him happy."
Don't forget that words written independently with phonic knowledge is what we are looking for so it might actually look like this... "Popee saw a gighnt. She mayd him hapee."
1200 - 1300 - Lunchtime
1300- 1330 - Phonics
Open Tapestry and watch the video ‘Set 1 Speed Sounds.’ Say the sounds along with Miss Bailey; can you remember them all and say them before she does? You should watch and say your Speed Sounds every single day.
For Phonics today, revisit the two new sounds that we have learnt this week - igh and ow - can you remember them both?
After you have recapped your new sounds, we would like you to choose a story from the Oxford Owl website to read. Follow the link below and create a free login to read a book independently.
Choose a book suitable for your child. Books go in order - 1) Sound Blending - 2) Red - 3) Green - 4) Purple - 5) Pink. Other books are read in Year 1. Children should be able to read all words in a book independently.
1330 Onwards- Forest School
It is time to go to Forest School with Mrs Holmes. Follow the link below to her Forest School page and click on any of the days on there to select your challenge.
https://sussex-road-community.secure-primarysite.net/forest-school-1/
Don't forget to post your Forest School challenges on Tapestry so that Mrs Holmes can see all of brilliant things you have been doing.
When you have finished, enjoy some free time to yourself or to spend with your family.
We hope you have had a lovely day and we can’t wait to see your uploads on Tapestry.
