Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with a marshmallow cloud!*
Hopefully, yesterday gave you a gentle easing into our Remote Learning. How did your leaf print designs turn out?
Listed below is our suggested timetable for the day. Remember, you can adapt and edit the times you do these tasks to suit the timetable you have at home :-).
As mentioned before, we have aimed to choose activities which can be completed straight into books without printing - to help save ink - but if you feel printing would be helpful, that is entirely up to you! :-)
Word of the Day: Amphibian
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Now, complete the 60-Second Reading Comprehension ‘Help, I’m Stuck!’ – think about the types of question and what reading skill each ‘dog’ focuses on.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
So today, we're going to continue with our learning on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, but focusing on equivalents!
Warm-Up: Present the 5 given numbers below as a percentage, a fraction (?/100) and a decimal!
28 88 6 70. Write these into your books!

Home Learning - Year 5: Week 2 (Lesson 5: Equivalent FDP). Start the video from 0.28.

Watch the video & work through the activities given on the White Rose Maths Task Sheet.
Complete the answers straight into your books!
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Have a snack and try to get some fresh air if possible.
How far did you jump yesterday? Can you beat this today? Put a line (a piece of string, ribbon etc) on the floor. Put both feet on the string? Do three jumps. Measure each one. Keep a record for the week. Can you get further?
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?!
Revision Task: Complete the SPaG Revision Mat with differentiated levelling. Independently choose which level and complete into your books.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
What other stories does “Secrets” remind you of? Write the ideas into your books.
Write the next chapter in this story.
Use different openers for your sentences (adverbials, time connectives) and make sure you have a variety of sentences- simple and complex (relative and subordinate clauses).
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Like we do in class with our Class Book, take a moment to do some quiet reading to yourself.
1:30 - 3:00: Science-Focused Enquiry:
Sort the pictures into groups- mammals, birds, amphibians etc. Look at the pictures and sort them in to groups. Science - Animal Sorting. You could draw T-Charts in your books and sort the animals in that way!
Take your learning further - Create a poster about each different group.
https://www.sciencekids.co.nz/
Go on to the 'Animal' part of this website - choose an animal from 1 section and write an interesting fact about each animal.
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
Can anything be true or false at the same time? Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's discussion point:
Would an elephant make a good pet? Why or why not?
Mrs. Hudson: I think that an elephant would make the perfect pet, as you could get a lovely outdoor shower from its trunk and use it to lift you up to reach high places, for example if you wanted to clean your up stairs windows.
Miss Martin: Although I like the idea of having a small elephant, I do think it would be tricky to keep them. They need loads of space to roam in and love knocking down trees. No, I think they should be left to roam in the wild.
Have a great weekend, Year 5! We look forward to speaking to you again next week :-)
Log in on Monday for some more exciting learning!
