Hello Year 5! *virtual hand shake - with secret hand shake!
We hope you enjoyed yesterday's lessons. It has been wonderful seeing the work you have been producing for The Wilderness War, hearing about your favourite places and finding out how you work out area and perimeter. More over we have really enjoyed listening to other different activities you have been getting up to like cooking, gardening and running. Well done. Keep it up. We are so proud of you.
This was message Maria received from Professor Benjamin Zephaniah yesterday:
"This is absolutely amazing. Every thing that needs to be said and it makes you smile. This is the coolest thing I have seen for a long time."
Fantastic Maria. Hopefully this will inspire you to send messages, poems or pictures to authors, footballers, artists that you admire. Go for it!
Word of the Day: Viability
Like you would in school, look up what this word means, what word group it belongs to, place it accurately into a sentence and work out what prefixes/ suffixes could be added (remember this last one doesn't always apply!).
09:00 - 09:30: Reading.
Read your book for 15 mins or more.
Well, you have read and listened to his poems, now find out more about Benjamin Zephaniah, by completing the comprehension about him.
BEWARE: Choose which level you want to try. There are 3 levels. 1 star is easier than 3 stars. If you are printing these out, print out the pages you want.
09:30 - 10:30: Maths.
Warm-Up: Complete the Daily 10 Challenge. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10
Level 5 → Multiplication → Mixed Tables: Up to x12.
Today, we're continuing with Perimeter and Area by applying all the learning you have been doing to a range of different questions, but you choose what to work on!
Work through 'Friday 15th May - Maths Task Sheet'.
10:30 - 10:45: Break.
Running: How fast can you run? In your garden or hall, see how many lengths of the space you can run in 5 minutes. Can you do more everyday? Keep a log!
10:45 - 11:15: Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar.
Spend 15mins on Lexia or Spellzone if you have an account - how great if we could hand out more certificates?
Have a go at the Revision Spelling Sheet: The 'ee' sound spelt 'ei'.
11:15 - 12:15: English.
Today, you are going to write up your balanced argument on saving The Wilderness.
Use your plan with the notes you made yesterday.
Remember you will need:
(Feel free to add any more paragraphs or detail. The plan above is only a guide!).
12:15 - 1:15: Lunch.
Be sure to have something to eat and try to get some fresh air!
1:15 - 1:30: Quiet Reading.
Go on to the Wilderness War section of the website. Listen to Chapter 18 and 19 as Miss Martin reads it.
1:30 - 3:00: Geography: Food Miles!
Work through the sheet 'Geography - Lesson 3'.
We're looking at where our food comes from and the journey it takes to get to us...
Well done everyone! We are continuing with the philosophical questions! They are just some funny little thoughts to get your brains working and everyone interacting (save your points for lunchtime or dinnertime or FaceTime - get your family involved!).
It will be interesting to hear what you think! :)
Here we go:
What makes you, you?
This video may give you some ideas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvSaVTbxtdM
Do your parents agree? Why or why not?
Yesterday's question: What is friendship?
Mrs. Hudson: Friendship is a wonderful thing. I have lots of different friends, some people who I am really close to and some people whose company I enjoy but I don't see that often. My best friends and I enjoy a good natter and a good giggle. I know imagine Mrs. Hudson giggling!!!! Outrageous! Tee! Hee!
Miss. Martin: Friendship is when you have somebody in your life that you can trust, you feel comfortable being yourself with them, you have fun and who always looks out for you. You might not like all the same things, but that's okay because it's what makes each of you, who you are, and you accept that! Some of my closest friends are those who I don't see all that often, but we pick up from where we left off last time... others I see every week! :-)
Have a great evening, Year 5! We look forward to seeing any ideas or work that you produced from today!
Log in on Friday for some more exciting learning!
