Friday 15th January 2021

Wow! It did seem as though it didn't stop raining yesterday. If like me you got some fresh air, you probably got very soggy. The paths around here are filled with a gloopy, sticky mud, which makes it tricky to walk. Anyway, today promises sunshine, but chilly temperatures, so wrap up warm for our afternoon activities and have a lovely weekend. Well done for all your hard work over the past 2 weeks. We are really proud of you.

Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it.

09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!

It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

Word of the Day:   Ampoule

Look up what the word means, what word group it belongs to and place it accurately into a sentence.

09:45 - 10:30   Mathematics.

Step 9: Area of Irregular Shapes

This week, we will be starting a new topic in our mathematical learning in Measurement: Perimeter and Area!

Work through the Friday 15th January – Maths Activity.

Be sure to watch the White Rose video on the link – this will help with your new learning!

10:30 - 10:45   BREAK!

Get outside and enjoy the Winter air! Can you create your own mini- fitness programme for outdoors? Try star jumps, running on the spot, keepy -uppies?.

10:45 - 11:15   SPaG

Spelling Revision: Special Focus Challenge!

Work through the given sheet, which we would usually see in our Orange Spelling Book. You may have done this before, but these activities are focusing on words which have unique spelling rules so it’s good to practice.

Complete the questions given on the sheet.

11:15 - 12:15   English/Writing.

How would you write instructions for your perfect potion?

Watch this video on writing instructions.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/how-to-write-clear-instructions/zrvtscw

Follow the sheet attached to write the instructions for your amazing potion.

Try to add some adverbs- carefully, slowly gently, to vary your openings to your sentences. Keep adding relative clauses, alliteration and even onomatopoeia to make it sound really exciting.,

12:15 - 12:30   Class/Own Book.

Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

12:30 - 1:30   LUNCH!

1:30 - 2:00   Reading Activity.

Complete the Gravity comprehension. Look up any new words to help you.

2 - 2.30pm    Circle Time:

Social Media

Who should use it? Is it a good or a bad thing? This is a really important discussion to have, as we are relying on this more and more to communicate. Work through the Circle Time sheet

2.30-3.20pm

Get outside:

Even though it is Winter, it is vital you get some fresh air and exercise for your physical and mental well-being.  Try one of the activities on the sheet over the next few weeks.

If it is raining, create a poster advertising for last week’s potion, persuading people to buy it?

Philosophical Question to finish the day!

Yesterday's Q:   Would you rather be a Polar Bear or an alligator? Why?

Miss Martin: I think I would rather be a polar bear... Look at the size of those paws! Brilliant for swimming & that furry coat will definitely keep you snug in the cold!

Miss Chapman:  This is a tough one, could I merge the animals together?! If I couldn't it would be a polar bear. Polar bears can handle the cold, walk great distances and sleep lots!! Maybe I could meet Santa?!

Mrs. Hudson: Definitely a sneaky alligator. I would skim to murky depths of the Amazon, peering at passing canoes with my huge beady eyes. Then suddenly I would snap my jaws shut to make people jump. You never know I may catch a passing fly of fish. Think of all the wonderful wildlife I could sneak up on.

Today's Question:  What is the most important element of a play area: a swing, a slide or a roundabout? Why?

Spend some time during dinner or at some point in the evening, discussing this with the other people at home! We're sure there will be some interesting responses :-)
