Welcome to your final week of Term 3 Remote Learning!
Kung Hei Fat Choy! Happy Chinese New Year!
Well it certainly was a beautiful day yesterday, but extremely cold. I wonder how long your snowmen will last in your gardens? Did you enjoy playing the indoor games with your family? If you haven't tried them all, come back to them over half term. Your adverts look superb and we are excited to see your results from the Maths assessment.
Enjoy doing the Chinese New Year based activities this afternoon.
Have a great half-term and hopefully we will be face- to- face soon.
Everyday we are posting quotations from famous inventors to inspire your resilience.
Keep uploading your work on Tapestry. We love to see it!!
09:00 - 09:45: Class Daily Zoom Session!
It's been lovely to have so many of you join us for the calls so far. Make sure you have a paper and pen ready for the session, to make notes of key learning points and to be able to join in with the tasks :-).

09:45 - 10:30 Mathematics.
Number: Multiplication and Division Assessment!
Remember, in class at the end of each unit, we would complete an assessment to see how much we could remember.
Work through the questions on the assessment sheet and see how you get on. If you’re not sure, look back through your book to help you AS A LAST RESORT!
Try all questions & take as long as you need to complete.
Read each question carefully. Check what they are asking you to do.
Then self-mark.
PLEASE ensure you do this and upload to Tapestry so we can see how you have gotten on in this topic.
10:30 - 10:45 BREAK!
Get outside and enjoy the Winter air and be a year 5 Joe Wicks.
Using your circuit training from PE the last few weeks, can you make up your own circuit?

Spelling Revision: Special Focus Challenge 6!
Work through the given sheet, which we would usually see in our Orange Spelling Book. You may have done this before, but these activities are focusing on words which have unique spelling rules so it’s good to practice.
Complete the questions given on the sheet.
11:15 - 12:15 English/Writing.
Have we benefitted from scientific and technological advances?
Let's think about our topic question this term and all the wonderful learning we have achieved.
Think about all the scientists we have read about, including Edward Jenner and Marie Curie. Think about the vaccination for Covid-19.
What about the World Wide Web, computers and phones? Have these benefitted us?
On the other hand, what about chemical pollution or global warming caused by using cars, electricity, through industry making computers.
So, brainstorm the positives, then negatives and write two or more paragraphs on your views.
12:15 - 12:30 Class/Own Book.
Like we would in class with our class book, spend some time quiet reading or listening to the class book. The teachers have uploaded videos of themselves reading different chapters on Tapestry, so be sure to check :-).

Philosophical Question to finish the day!
Yesterday's Q: How do you feel when you do something really well and how can this help you when you do something incorrectly?
Miss Martin: I all too often don't hold on to that really lovely feeling of being proud and it's SO important for our confidence and self-belief. When I achieved my grade for an assignment at university, I clearly remember thinking to myself 'okay, so what did I do differently this time, compared to the other essays?' I copied the same process as I had for my successful piece and my grades improved! I was really proud of that, as it was something I worked hard towards and figured out all on my own (which was a big deal for 18 year old me at the time!!). It wasn't always perfect... but I had proved to myself that I can achieve and it was something to strive towards again :-).
Miss Chapman: Resilience! When you do something well, a smile naturally appears on our face. At times we may try and hide the smile. A natural response to getting something incorrect is to frown, at times we cry, become frustrated or even get angry. These responses are common but not the most effective as when in these frame of minds conquering your mistake becomes even more of a challenge as you have to overcome the barrier of the emotion first. I was once told, 'The more you do, the more you'll know.' and this stuck with me ..if I keep practicing and not giving up I will succeed. This doesn't mean i succeeded every time but mostly. Everytime I was successful it spurred me on!
Mrs. Hudson: I think it it is really important to hold on to the proud feeling you have when you feel you have done something well and others congratulate you for it. My daughter, always used to think that she wasn't very good at anything at school, but then she did really well in a Geography project and felt really proud of herself. This kick started her motivation to do well for herself. She worked really hard in her GCSE's and A levels and is now doing a degree in Geography. So remember like the quotes from our inventors this week, learn from your mistakes and be proud of what you do.
Have fun and Happy Half-term. You deserve it.
