Welcome to Sussex Road School English
At Sussex Road Primary School, we believe that every child has the right to develop the effective communication skills needed to be successful throughout their onward education and into lifelong careers. We want children to enjoy language: listening to it, reading it and to be excited to explore its uses. Developing literacy and language skills is fundamental to being able to explore the whole curriculum: without the ability to communicate effectively through speaking, reading and writing, children are restricted in how they engage with other areas of learning.
Much of our English curriculum is taught through our termly enquiries. Many of the texts the children engage with offer opportunities to explore different places in the world or time periods in history as well as giving them the opportunity to question the world around them. Children might write in character as someone from the past or an explanation of how something works.
